More than 100 firefighters have been tackling a wildfire near the Suffolk coast.
The blaze in Dunwich Heath, near Leiston, has been burning since Wednesday evening.
Largest fire in memory
Twelve fire appliances were at the scene overnight.
The fire broke out around 5pm on Wednesday and grew to about 150 hectares which is equivalent of 210 football pitches.
Jon Lacey, Chief Fire Officer of Suffolk Fire and Rescue Service, told a press conference the blaze was “one of the largest that I remember in the history of Suffolk”.
Suffolk Fire and Rescue Service were aided by firefighters from seven other services.
Crews were also assisted by a helicopter capable of dropping 1,000 litres of seawater.
The fire is a few miles from the Sizewell B nuclear power station and the site on which Sizewell C is being built.
Impact on residents
Residents were urged to keep windows and doors closed and some experienced a power cut.
Some residents at neighbouring properties and a holiday park were evacuated to a village hall.
Firefighters at the service had been due to take part in a 24-hour ladder climb challenge to mark the 25th anniversary of the September 11 attacks, but this has been postponed.
An investigation into the cause of the fire has been launched.
