Doorset manufacturer JELD-WEN UK has officially opened a new 294,000 sq ft manufacturing facility at Bessemer Park in Sheffield, following a £20 million investment in its UK operations.

The purpose built site provides additional manufacturing and distribution capacity, with modern equipment and a layout designed to improve production efficiency, operational flexibility and productivity.

The opening continues the company’s longstanding presence in Sheffield, with its existing workforce relocating to the new facility.

Supporting UK doorset manufacturing

The investment is intended to strengthen JELD-WEN’s manufacturing capabilities and support changing customer requirements.

The company has retained its experienced Sheffield team, maintaining existing product knowledge and customer relationships throughout the relocation.

Hamish White, Director of Operations, at JELD-WEN UK, said: “The opening of our new Sheffield site at Bessemer Park is an exciting milestone for JELD-WEN and represents an important investment in the future of our UK operations.

“Moving into a purpose-built facility gives our team more space, modern equipment and an environment designed around the way we operate today, while giving us greater flexibility as our customers’ needs continue to evolve.

“Throughout the transition, our priority has been to maintain the quality, reliability and service our customers expect. We have the same experienced team and commitment to our customers, but now with a facility that gives us a stronger platform for the future.”

Improving manufacturing sustainability

Environmental performance has been incorporated into the facility’s design.

The building has achieved a BREEAM Very Good rating and an EPC A rating.

Solar photovoltaic panels are expected to generate approximately 90,084kWh of electricity annually.

Additional measures include an air source heating and cooling system, rainwater harvesting and electric forklifts to support more efficient resource use.

Further investment in UK production

The Sheffield opening forms part of a wider programme of investment across JELD-WEN’s UK manufacturing operations.

The company’s Penrith facility has also received targeted investment, including the installation of a third production line.

According to JELD-WEN, the additional line will increase production at Penrith by 50%.

Together, the Sheffield and Penrith investments are intended to strengthen manufacturing capacity, improve operational resilience and support the company’s ability to respond to customer demand.
