London Fire Brigade has reached more than 3,500 Deliveroo riders through its #ChargeSafe campaign partnership, providing advice on the safe use, storage and charging of electric bikes and lithium batteries.
The initiative, delivered through Deliveroo Rider Roadshows, aims to improve awareness of fire risks associated with electric bikes and scooters across London.
Seven roadshows held across London
Now in its third year, the partnership delivered seven events during 2026, with hundreds of riders attending each roadshow.
Events took place in Shoreditch, Ealing, Soho, Hammersmith, Dowgate, Lewisham and Old Kent Road.
Firefighters engaged directly with riders, providing practical guidance on battery safety and explaining how unsafe products can increase the risk of fires.
The events also attracted local council representatives, Electrical Safety First and local media, helping extend the campaign’s safety messages.
Raising awareness of lithium battery fire risks
The #ChargeSafe campaign focuses on reducing fire risks associated with electric bikes, electric scooters and lithium batteries.
With many Deliveroo riders using legal electric bikes to travel across London’s roads, the roadshows provided opportunities to discuss safe ownership and charging practices.
Firefighters highlighted the potential dangers of purchasing unsafe electrical products online and encouraged riders to buy equipment from reputable sellers.
Promoting safer charging and storage
The campaign also provides guidance on appropriate battery storage and charging practices to help reduce the likelihood of fires.
London Fire Brigade has highlighted the serious consequences of incidents involving electric bikes and scooters, particularly when unsafe equipment is brought into residential properties.
Through its partnership with Deliveroo, the Brigade continues to promote greater awareness of lithium battery hazards and practical measures that riders can take to protect themselves and their homes.
London Fire Brigade’s Deputy Commissioner Spencer Sutcliff attended Dowgate Fire Station’s Deliveroo rider roadshow.
He said: “The Rider Roadshows with Deliveroo are invaluable for us to get the message out there to some e-bike users about how to buy safe products, the safest way to charge batteries and the best way to store devices.
“E-bikes and e-scooters are one of London’s fastest-growing fire risks, so we welcome partnering with brands like Deliveroo who want to support our #ChargeSafe campaign.”
“This year we’ve seen 129 fires caused by e-bikes and e-scooters (between January and the end of August). While the number is down by 16 incidents (from 145) in 2025, we know we still have work to do to keep Londoners safe.
“For every person we share #chargesafe information with – it literally can be lifesaving!
“We encourage all companies and individuals with an interest in e-bikes to take the same approach to ensure safety advice is reaching even more people.”
Jules Pipe, Deputy Mayor for Fire, said: “E-bikes are transforming how people travel and work, supporting thousands of delivery drivers across London every day.
“But the growing use of e-bikes must be matched by greater awareness of the dangers posed by unsafe chargers, batteries and illegal modifications.
“London Fire Brigade’s #ChargeSafe campaign is providing vital safety advice to help riders protect themselves, their families and their homes.
“Nobody should be put at risk by faulty or unsafe equipment. The Mayor and I will continue to back efforts to improve e-bike safety, strengthen regulation and ensure Londoners have the information they need to stay safe, as we work together to build a safer London.”
Paul Bedford, Policy & Sustainability Director at Deliveroo said: “We’re committed to strengthening e-bike safety for our riders and the public.
“Our joint events with the London Fire Brigade continue to be an important platform to raise awareness and engage riders on the dangers associated with un-safe e-bikes and battery usage.
“Together, we are working to reduce the risk of fires and promote a safer environment for all e-bike users in London.”
