Euralarm has announced the programme for the first European Fire Detection Forum, taking place on 2 December 2026 at Koelnmesse in Cologne, Germany, as part of VdS FireSafety Cologne.
The event will bring together industry specialists, researchers, regulators and standardisation experts to examine emerging technologies and future developments in fire detection.
Exploring the future of fire detection
Under the theme From Reaction to Prediction: The Next Paradigm of Electronic Fire Safety, the Forum will consider how detection systems can identify developing fire risks earlier.
Discussions will examine the transition from conventional detection methods towards technologies capable of identifying potential hazards before a fire develops.
Industry experts to examine emerging challenges
Euralarm President Peter Mita will open the Forum, followed by Chantal Chalouhi of Jensen Hughes, who will examine European fire safety challenges and trends.
Robert Read of Apollo Fire Detectors will discuss the limitations of existing smoke, heat and carbon monoxide detection technologies.
Sebastian Festag of Euralarm will address the continuing challenge of preventing false alarms.
Artificial intelligence and battery safety on agenda
Further sessions will explore remote services, automated testing, sustainability, computer vision, Edge AI and sensor fusion.
Predictive fire safety and early gas detection associated with lithium ion battery incidents will also feature.
The programme will conclude with discussions about whether regulations, standards and certification processes can keep pace with technological developments.
Registration and event information
The Forum will take place at Congress Centrum Ost, Koelnmesse, with presentations delivered in English.
Tickets cost €395 plus VAT and include conference documentation, refreshments, lunch and access to the two day VdS FireSafety Cologne exhibition.
The event is intended for manufacturers, engineers, installers, building owners, emergency services and regulatory professionals.
Full programme details and registration information are available through the Euralarm website.
Peter Mita, President of Euralarm, said: “The future of fire detection will not be defined by one technology alone. It will depend on how we combine better sensing, artificial intelligence, new service models and reliable standards to detect developing risks earlier and respond more intelligently.
“Moving from reaction to prediction is therefore not simply a technology discussion – it is a challenge for the entire fire safety ecosystem. The European Fire Detection Forum brings together the different perspectives needed to address that challenge.”
