DJI has launched the Matrice 400, a versatile flagship drone platform designed to support complex operations in emergency response, mapping, and inspection.
Featuring up to 59 minutes of flight time and a 6 kg payload capacity, the Matrice 400 is aimed at professionals requiring extended range, robust performance, and advanced obstacle avoidance.
The platform integrates LiDAR, mmWave radar, and low-light vision sensors to navigate safely even in challenging environments such as mountainous terrain, offshore vessels, or near power lines. Its rugged design includes an IP55 protection rating and an operating temperature range from -20°C to 50°C, supporting operations in harsh conditions.
For remote missions, the Matrice 400 offers up to 40 km video transmission with its enhanced O4 system and the ability to use a second unit as a relay drone to overcome obstructions. New intelligent features include terrain-following, real-time AR projections of obstacles and landmarks, and automated detection of vehicles, vessels, and people — even in thermal mode.
The system also supports up to seven simultaneous payloads, compatible with DJI and third-party devices, enabling users to tailor configurations to diverse scenarios such as search and rescue, construction inspection, or photogrammetry.
While not radically departing from DJI’s established design philosophy, the Matrice 400 underscores the company’s focus on operational reliability, automation, and situational awareness — attributes increasingly valued by fire services, utility operators, and other critical infrastructure sectors.
