TLX Fire & Security and Redline Fire Solutions have announced a partnership to develop and commercialise a range of fire suppression agents, initially focusing on solutions for lithium ion battery fires.

The collaboration will combine TLX Fire & Security’s international manufacturing and distribution capabilities with Redline Fire Solutions’ firefighting expertise and product formulation experience.

Addressing lithium ion battery fire risks

The partnership will initially focus on Thermal Stop and Thermal Shield, two patented products designed to address the challenges associated with lithium ion battery incidents.

These include rapid extinguishment, preventing reignition and controlling thermal runaway, which can create difficulties for emergency responders.

According to the companies, the products are formulated to address all four elements of the fire tetrahedron during lithium ion battery fires.

Thermal Stop and Thermal Shield applications

Thermal Stop is a patented wetting agent designed to extinguish lithium ion battery fires and interrupt thermal runaway.

The manufacturers claim the agent can achieve extinguishment within seconds or minutes while requiring minimal water.

The product is also intended for use on Class A, B, D and K fires.

Thermal Shield is designed to stabilise batteries following extinguishment, supporting subsequent transportation and storage.

Focus on environmental characteristics

Both agents are formulated without perfluoroalkyl and polyfluoroalkyl substances, commonly known as PFAS.

The companies state that the products are biodegradable, non toxic and non corrosive, with ingredients included on the US Environmental Protection Agency’s Safer Chemical Ingredients List.

Both products are also reported to hold independent certification to NFPA 18.

Partnership supports international distribution

TLX Fire & Security will contribute to product development, manufacturing, marketing and sales, using its international presence to support distribution.

Redline Fire Solutions will provide operational firefighting knowledge and formulation expertise.

The companies also intend to develop additional suppression agents for other fire classes as part of the partnership.

Phil Worsman of Redline Fire Solutions said: “The most effective fire protection solutions are born from the experience of those who face these dangers firsthand.

“As firefighters, we understand that innovation isn’t just about developing new technology. It’s about solving real-world problems, improving firefighter safety, and protecting lives, property, and the environment.

“Our mission is to bridge the gap between frontline experience and advanced fire suppression technology, ensuring the solutions we develop meet the demands of those who depend on them.”

Neil Karolek, CEO of TLX Fire & Security, said: “I am excited about TLX’s partnership with Redline and our shared goal of providing market-proven extinguishing
agents that can help save lives and property worldwide.

“We look forward to working together toward a successful outcome.”
