In a move aimed at bolstering its growth strategy to have a greater impact on advancing safety, the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) announced the appointment of international business veteran Carlos Correia as its vice president of strategic initiatives. In his new role, Correia will oversee the association’s business diversification which may include acquisitions, innovation, and scaling businesses in related sectors.
“Carlos brings a diverse international business background and a proven ability to steer successful businesses and growth strategies,” said NFPA President and CEO Jim Pauley. “His unique set of skills and experiences will greatly help NFPA widen its impact and reach, furthering our important fire, life, and electrical safety mission.”
Correia previously served as vice president and general manager of Assets and Sustainability Performance at Underwriters Laboratories (UL). In this role, he oversaw the company’s digital and consulting business, with a focus on energy transition, healthy buildings, sustainability, and health and safety. Throughout his career, he has led several businesses and units, with some generating revenues exceeding $250 million. Additionally, Correia has extensive international work experience, having lived, and worked in Germany, Japan, and the United States.
Correia holds a Mechanical Engineering degree from Escola Superior Náutica Infante D. Henrique in Portugal and an MBA from UBI Business School in Belgium. Fluent in English, Portuguese, French, and Spanish, and with his global work experience, Correia brings an invaluable international perspective to his new role at NFPA.
