Firefighters continue to tackle a significant moorland fire near Dovestone Reservoir in Greater Manchester.
The blaze broke out on the evening of July 11, triggering a major multi agency response.
Emergency crews from Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service have been working continuously since the initial call, facing challenging conditions to contain the fire and prevent it spreading further across the moorland.
Specialist wildfire resources, command support units, drone technology and partner agencies remain deployed across multiple sectors of the incident.
Smoke spreads across Greater Manchester
Strong winds have carried smoke from the fire across parts of Greater Manchester, with residents in areas well beyond the immediate vicinity reporting haze and the smell of burning.
Firefighters remain focused on limiting the spread of the blaze while protecting the surrounding landscape and supporting ongoing operations in difficult terrain.
Members of the public are being urged to avoid the area wherever possible to allow emergency services and partner agencies to continue their work safely.
Firefighters maintain round the clock operations
As of July 13, firefighters remain at the scene of the moorland fire near Dovestone Reservoir in Greenfield.
Fire engines from across Greater Manchester attended the incident alongside specialist wildfire officers, a Burns Team and supervisory officers.
Following an initial assessment of the scene, additional firefighters were requested to support crews operating in the challenging landscape.
Throughout Sunday and overnight, relief crews rotated through the incident to maintain continuous firefighting operations while working to contain the fire and prevent further spread across the moorland.
Offensive firefighting operation now underway
A water supply has now been established, allowing firefighters to move into an offensive firefighting operation using hose lines to tackle the fire directly.
Additional command officers and specialist wildfire personnel have also been mobilised to strengthen the response.
Crews remain at the scene continuing to extinguish hotspots, contain the fire and monitor conditions as firefighting operations continue.
