Eaton unveils new emergency lighting option

Power management company Eaton today announced the extension of its successful Micropoint 2 family of emergency luminaires. The Micropoint 2 High Output is designed to provide a greater minimum lux level to high-risk task areas and exit routes where increased illumination enables safer movement of people in the event of a blackout. Despite its high lux output the new recessed luminaire has an unobtrusive design that makes it inconspicuous and aesthetically pleasing when not in operation. By incorporating LED technology the Micropoint 2 High Output also reduces maintenance requirements due to its longer lifespan when compared with halogen options.

“For the specific locations that require a higher lux level, as stated in BS 5266-1:2011, this new addition to the Micropoint family is an important development. The increased output ensures that building occupants have better visibility of building life safety provisions, such as disabled refuge and firefighting equipment. Also high risk task areas such as plant rooms, kitchens, first aid and treatment rooms should be covered.” said Steve Saville, emergency lighting product manager at Eaton. “Bearing in mind the legal and moral obligation to enable safe successful evacuation, the new Micropoint 2 High Output helps building and facilities managers mitigate against the risk of accidents during an emergency that can have considerable financial, legal, operational and reputational consequences.”
Guidance from the Industry Committee for Emergency Lighting (ICEL), and BS5266-1:2011, lists high-risk areas including kitchens, first aid rooms, treatment rooms, refuges, plant rooms, switch rooms, winding facilities for lifts, fire safety equipment and reception areas.
Due to its design and functionality, the new Micropoint 2 High Output is particularly well suited to the healthcare, retail, education and hospitality sectors where many of these types of rooms and areas exist.
Designed to look similar to the Micropoint recessed lighting range, the high output version utilises a polycarbonate head to blend in to most environments. An external battery box houses the additional batteries required for higher lumen levels. Installation into an existing ceiling is fast and simple as the gear pod and additional battery box can be installed from below the ceiling line making it suitable for solid and exposed grid ceilings.
Eaton offers an unrivalled breadth of life safety products and services to help building owners and managers meet their obligation to protect occupants, with particular regard to supporting safe evacuations. The presence of such systems in buildings helps to uphold the primary imperative to protect people, as well as helping to safeguard the assets, operations and reputation of the business itself.
