Eaton selected to keep trampoline centre secure by reaching new heights in fire safety

Go-Air

Eaton was selected by the design and building company behind Wales’ biggest trampoline arena to provide a bespoke mains lighting, emergency lighting and fire alarm solution. Black Circle Design, principal contractor and designer for the Go Air Trampoline Park in Cardiff, opted for an Eaton mains lighting solution that would enhance the aesthetic appeal and comfort of the interior while maximising energy efficiency. The power management company also delivered an emergency lighting scheme and fire alarm system to help the site owners meet their commitment to protecting the safety of staff and visitors, as well as guarding the fabric of the building and its assets.
The Go Air Trampoline Park in Cardiff was successfully completed within a demanding seven-week deadline. The 7,315m2 venue, formerly a warehouse, was extensively renovated and now houses 120 trampolines, six supersize foam pits and a dodge ball court.
Eaton specialists visited the warehouse at the outset to develop a mains lighting scheme in conjunction with the client’s design team. Eaton then produced and delivered 45 of its class-leading Linergy LEDs, which offer high energy-saving performance and flexibility for large, multi-use buildings.
“LED was an absolute must because of energy efficiency and future proofing,” said Mark Elliott, Business Development Manager for lighting and safety products at Eaton. “It also reduces the amount of maintenance required especially now that all the trampolines are in place. The Linergy LED provides 104.62 lumens per watt and when you get over 100 lumens per watt, you get into super-efficient territory. This product also meets the requirements of the enhanced capital allowance scheme, which means any company that invests in this high technology product can offset 20% of the total installation cost against their tax bill.”
Eaton also recommended a separate emergency lighting scheme for the trampoline park, which took full advantage of Eaton’s innovative Alfalux Highbay LEDs. Working in partnership with Black Circle Design, Eaton designed the fire alarm solution and supplied its recently launched two-wire fire system, BiWire Ultra. Unlike standard conventional systems, BiWire Ultra allows detectors, sounders and EN54-23 approved visual alarm devices (VADs) to all share the same zone wiring, which can reduce cabling and labour costs.
Mark Bond, Director of installation company M J B Electrical and Solar Services Limited, said his team did not encounter any issues, errors or faults. “Despite a tight deadline, Eaton came through with everything they promised,” he said. “Everything that they specified, I bought upfront so I knew I had it on-site. Eaton was always available. If we had any questions or queries, they would be there. When the layout was altered at the last minute, we had to order some additional components and they were there straight away.”
Go Air’s Cardiff facility was the first trampoline project that Black Circle Design had worked on with the company and the fact the venture was delivered on time without any problems has helped Black Circle Design win further contracts.
“We are really pleased with Eaton’s products and are looking to install both mains and emergency lighting in future Go Air sites,” said Dan Jones, Managing Director of Black Circle Design. “We also hope to provide Eaton’s fire alarm system in these projects as well.”
Lisa Entwistle-Evans, Marketing Director at Go Air, concluded: “The Go Air group is expanding rapidly across the UK and the plan is to open another five by November. Getting the trampoline parks up and running requires a multi-partnership approach, working against tight deadlines, and Eaton has been a key player. The health and safety of our staff, customers and the premises is our main priority and Eaton’s fire alarm system and lighting solutions have been important in ensuring Wales’ biggest trampoline park has the protection it needs.”
