The National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) is accepting applications for the 2016 James M. Shannon Advocacy Medal to recognize outstanding advocacy efforts that further NFPA’s mission of helping to save lives and reduce loss with information, knowledge and passion.
The James M. Shannon Advocacy Medal honors an individual or group that shares the values of former NFPA President Jim Shannon. Candidates will be involved in advocacy efforts that advance NFPA’s mission, take into account cost-effectiveness, and involve collaboration with NFPA and other organizations.
“This award is a statement of our gratitude for the important work people are doing to help us achieve our mission,” says Lorraine Carli, NFPA vice president of Outreach and Advocacy. “These people are instrumental in our ability to work toward the elimination of loss due to fire, electrical and other related hazards.”
Nominations are open to members of the fire service or any other person or group whose advocacy efforts meet the above criteria. The award recipient will be honored at the NFPA Conference & Expo in Las Vegas, Nev. in June 2016. NFPA will cover the recipient’s travel and lodging.
