LION has launched FireLens, an augmented reality system designed to provide workplace fire extinguisher training using simulated fire scenarios within real working environments.

The system combines augmented reality software with physical training extinguishers and instructor controls, allowing employees to practise responding to fires without live flames, physical smoke or extinguishing agents.

Workplace fire training

FireLens allows participants to continue seeing their surroundings while simulated fires are positioned within the workplace.

Instructors can create scenarios in areas including kitchens, warehouses and production environments, helping connect extinguisher handling with hazards employees could encounter during their work.

Fire behaviour can be configured to simulate factors including smoke development and fire spread.

Scenarios can also be adapted around specific training objectives, allowing employees to practise hazard recognition and decision making alongside the physical handling of extinguishers.

The portable wireless system is designed to support training across different workplace locations.

Instructor control and assessment

FireLens provides instructors with controls for creating, managing and reviewing exercises.

Virtual fire sources can be positioned within real environments, while instructors can configure simulated fire behaviour and environmental hazards.

Participant actions can be monitored during exercises, allowing instructors to adjust scenarios and assess how employees respond to developing conditions.

Following an exercise, performance can be reviewed to provide feedback to individual participants.

Expanding extinguisher training

FireLens joins LION’s existing portfolio of fire extinguisher training products and complements its BullsEye digital fire extinguisher training system.

The augmented reality system provides an additional option for organisations looking to conduct repeatable extinguisher exercises within their own workplaces without the logistical requirements associated with live fire training.
