Firefly Fire Pumps Unveils India’s First Homegrown Compressed Air Foam System

Share this article:

Firefly Fire Pumps, a pioneering force in India’s firefighting equipment sector, has launched the country’s first indigenous Compressed Air Foam System (CAFS) at the recently concluded Fire India 2024 Expo in Yashobhoomi, Delhi. This debut positions Firefly as the first and only Indian manufacturer to deliver this advanced firefighting technology, marking a major milestone in the industry.

The CAFS technology employs compressed air to produce a lightweight, expanding foam that adheres to surfaces, enhancing fire suppression capabilities. This foam delivers multiple benefits for effective fire control:

  • Protection: The foam acts as a thermal barrier, safeguarding materials from heat exposure and preventing ignition.
  • Heat Dissipation: Water within the foam absorbs heat as it evaporates, reducing the fire’s intensity.
  • Isolation: Foam forms a blanket that separates flames from oxygen, effectively smothering the fire.
  • Containment: A foam layer reduces the release of flammable gases from heated materials, a critical feature for handling liquid fires.

Addressing Modern Firefighting Challenges

“Today’s firefighting scenarios often involve unique risks, from high-rise buildings to chemical and oil fires, which traditional methods struggle to combat effectively,” explained Darshan Mali, Director of R&D at Firefly. “In response, our team developed the Compressed Air Foam System (CAFS) to meet these demands with improved versatility and effectiveness.”

The development of Firefly’s CAFS was a rigorous process, requiring the optimization of foam-to-water ratios, enhanced air-water integration, and a compact, durable design. User-friendly features support quick deployment in critical situations, and the system has undergone extensive testing to ensure reliability. Mali emphasizes, “This achievement reflects the commitment and expertise of our R&D team, engineers, and firefighters to create solutions for the evolving demands of modern firefighting.”

With CAFS, Firefly Fire Pumps is redefining firefighting standards in India, paving the way for enhanced safety in challenging fire environments across the nation.
