Tom Lyons joins National Fire Protection Association

The National Fire Protection Association® (NFPA®) announced Tom Lyons as the new director of communications for the association.

“We are thrilled to have Tom join NFPA,” said Lorraine Carli, NFPA vice president of Outreach and Advocacy. “His decades of experience in both the public and private sectors, combined with his deep knowledge of communication strategies, will be invaluable as we continue amplifying NFPA’s mission of advancing fire and life safety where people live, work, and play across the globe.”

Before joining NFPA, Mr. Lyons most recently held senior staff positions with the Commonwealth of Massachusetts, including at the Massachusetts Emergency Management Agency, where he assisted the Commonwealth’s response to the COVID-19 pandemic, other emergencies, and crisis communication planning for two Boston Marathons.

In his new role, Mr. Lyons will oversee the NFPA’s thought leadership activities, including media relations and the production of the organization’s flagship publication, NFPA Journal. He began his position with NFPA at the end of March.

“I am honored to join the talented and committed team at NFPA,” said Mr. Lyons. “I look forward to communicating to the public and media about the depth and breadth of our work and the contributions that NFPA makes worldwide in protecting lives and property from fire and electrical hazards.”
