Quick Fire – Andy Frankum

Quick Fire - Andy Frankum

Andy Frankum, Chair, National Social Housing Fire Strategy Group

What does ‘fire protection’ mean to you?

To mitigate fire risks and their affects. Fire protection for me is to protect life, ensuring the right systems and controls are in place and that they are effective to deliver safe outcomes.

What made you want to work in the industry?

The need to drive standards up and save lives. Some of the practice I have seen is poor. I’ve also seen some really excellent work too. We can collectively make that change to do better!

If you could talk to your younger self, what would you say?

Keep doing what you’re doing – listen, learn and challenge! Make sure you try to change something every day – it makes a difference!

Describe a funny thing that happened to you recently?

Planned a recent away day and led staff to think the next activity was Karaoke after they saw a microphone! You should have seen their faces!

What three traits define you?

Integrity, Determination and Persistence.

What’s your favourite meal and why?

Sunday Roast with the family, has to have Yorkshire puddings though! Because spending time with the family is important after a busy working week!

If you didn’t work in the fire industry, what would you be doing?

I would have learnt a trade! Always good to have skills that can deliver good quality products and services to those that need them.
