FOGTEC Brandschutz GmbH has opened applications for the Ernst Achilles Prize 2026, inviting students to submit final academic theses focused on fire protection.
Students can enter with a bachelor’s thesis, master’s thesis or doctoral dissertation via the Ernst Achilles Prize website until 27 August.
Award recognises fire safety innovation
The Ernst Achilles Prize recognises outstanding academic work that explores new developments in fire protection.
The award aims to encourage innovation across the sector while inspiring the next generation of fire safety professionals.
Prize money of €2,500 will be awarded to the first-place winner, with €1,500 for second place and €750 for third place.
Entries will be assessed by a specialist jury made up of experts from across the fire safety industry. In addition to academic quality, the panel will evaluate each submission based on its practical relevance and potential benefits for end users.
Winners announced in Cologne
The winners will be honoured during an award ceremony on 27 November at the headquarters of FOGTEC Brandschutz GmbH in Cologne.

Honouring a fire protection pioneer
The award is named in honour of Ernst Achilles, a globally recognised pioneer in preventive fire safety who played a key role in developing today’s standards for medical emergency rescue by the fire service.
FOGTEC said the prize is intended to preserve and promote the innovative spirit associated with his work.
