Saleel Anthrathodiyil, PE, CFPS, MIFireE, is Team Lead for Fire Protection Engineering at Telgian Engineering and Consulting, where he leads four full time and three part time direct reports.
His technical responsibilities include performance based design, smoke control, fire and egress modelling, code consulting and life safety strategy. Alongside project delivery, he supports recruitment, mentoring, business development and team development.
Anthrathodiyil is a licensed Professional Engineer and holds the NFPA CFPS credential and ICC CFPE credential. He holds MIFireE membership with the Institution of Fire Engineers and Professional Member status with SFPE. He was also selected as a 2026 SFPE 5 Under 35 recipient.
Fire protection engineering and practical innovation
Anthrathodiyil developed the Hydrant Flow Test Calculator, a free application designed to assist fire protection engineers and authorities having jurisdiction with field water supply analysis. Available through Apple and Google app stores, the application has recorded more than 1,000 downloads.
His published technical work covers subjects including performance based fire and egress modelling, hazardous material facilities and battery storage within the built environment.
During his master’s programme at the University of Maryland, his research used multisensor data and intelligent algorithms to identify smoke and contaminant signatures.
Supporting the next generation of fire engineers
Anthrathodiyil has also contributed to fire protection engineering outreach. Through the SFPE Greater Atlanta Chapter and Xplorlabs programme, he introduced approximately 250 eighth grade students to fire protection engineering during 2025 and 2026. He also encouraged colleagues to participate in the classroom programme.
His wider community involvement includes academic mentoring in children’s shelter homes in India, helping establish the SmileMakers student support initiative, and mentoring through The Apprentice Project and Enrich Lives Foundation.
After moving to the United States, he also participated in a reading mentorship programme in Prince George’s County, Maryland, continuing a wider focus on education, mentoring and professional outreach.
