Ferrara receives purchase order from the City of New York for five heavy rescues

Ferrara, a leading manufacturer of custom built, heavy duty fire apparatus, announced a purchase order from the City of New York Fire Department (FDNY) for five (5) Ferrara Heavy Duty Custom Rescues. Each of the five boroughs of New York City; Manhattan, the Bronx, Queens, Brooklyn, and Staten Island, has one heavy rescue assigned to it and is staffed by an officer and five firefighters.
These new rescues will replace the five existing Ferrara units purchased in 2010. Due to FDNY’s high call volume of over 550,000 annual calls, the fleet of heavy rescue units are replaced every seven years. The rescue companies carry a wide variety of specialized tools and equipment and have the training to handle incidents that may be outside the capabilities of a normal Engine or Ladder Company.
The new rigs will feature:
• Ferrara’s UltraTM custom two-door cab/chassis and walk-in rescue bodies, both manufactured of 12 gauge 3CR12 stainless steel
• Exterior compartment storage of 492 cubic feet and interior compartment storage of 202 cubic feet, with custom shelving, trays and storage modules to maximize space and for ease of access to equipment
• Five year bumper to bumper and ten year structural warranty As with the previous units, these new units will be built to FDNY’s specifications utilizing the best components, engineering and production methods available to endure the rigorous duty cycle of the FDNY.
