Wawrzaszek ISS unveils the new aircraft rescue vehicle felix 8×8

FELIX 8X8

Wawrzaszek ISS, the leading producer of firefighting vehicles in Poland and Europe are proud to unveil the Felix 8×8, a four axle, all wheel-drive crash tender that fulfills requirements of N.F.P.A and I.C.A.O. It is driven by two Volvo Penta diesel engines placed on the back of the chassis.

Both are turbocharged and fulfill the emission standard TIER 4i. The capacity of each engine is 16120cm3 which

allows them to achieve combined maximum power of 900kW (1224KM) at 1800 rpm.
 

The vehicle has two automatic gearboxes, each one has seven gears and reverse. The vehicle is equipped with pneumatic braking system, with two independent circuits – one for front two axles and second one for rear two axles. All brakes are disc brakes with ABS.
 

Cab and superstructure construction 
The cab is manufactured from high grade Glass Reinforced Polyester (GRP) in accordance with the requirements of ECE 17R and 29R safety standards.
 

The design of the cab provide a high level of crew protection, comfortable working environment, excellent visibility and ease of operation for the crew members. The cab offers seating capacity for the driver and 3 to 5 crew

members.

 

FELIX 6X6

The vehicle weight is 36 tonnes. This specification is based on the requirements of N.F.P.A. and I.C.A.O. The chassis is fitted with a high performance rear mounted engine with excellent acceleration, a top speed of more than 115 km/h and good cross country.
 

Cab and superstructure construction

The cab is manufactured from high grade Glass Reinforced Polyester (GRP) in accordance with the requirements of ECE 17R and 29R safety standards.
 

The design of the cab provide a high level of crew protection, comfortable working environment, excellent visibility and ease of operation for the crew members. The cab offers seating capacity for the driver and 3 to 5 crew members. Sidewalls of superstructure are made out of sandwich plates and produced according to the vacuum technology.
 

The lockers are used as pump compartment, for stowage of the auxiliary powder extinguishing system and some auxiliary equipment. Access to the roof of the vehicle is provided by a rear mounted ladder.
 

Water-foam system
The vehicle is equipped with a water tank with a capacity of 10000 litres and a foam tank with a capacity of 1500 litres. The fire fighting centrifugal pump with priming pump is mid- ship mounted and powered through the power divider; double-stage design, with fully automatic membrane primer sucking water in gunmetal/bronze design and has a flow rate of minimum 6000 litres water per minute at an outlet pressure of minimum 10 bars with highest pressure up to 15 bar, driven by a power take-off.
 

The pump foam admix system is installed. The foam admixing ratio can be adjusted from 0, 1, 3 and 6 %. The dual-flow monitor with electrically remote control; fitted on top of the crew cab. The capacity of up to 5000 litres per minute in high discharge mode.
 

The reach of the monitor in high discharge will be around 85 metres from the tip of the monitor. All functions are controlled from the joystick. A compact electrically joystick controlled bumper turret with integral hollow stream nozzle is fitted on the front bumper.
 

Reach of the turret is around 46 metres from the tip of the monitor. There are nine under-truck nozzles, with remote controlled shut-off valve. There are two medium pressure electrically operated hose reels, with 30 m rubber high pressure hose of 1 1/2 “ and a gun type water- foam medium pressure. The dry chemical unit weighs 250 kg.

The light mast is anodised for maximal weather protection integrated in to the superstructure pneumatically extendable by 6 metres from ground level.
 

There are two floodlights, each are 1000 watt, the light head can be orientated horizontally by 180 degrees in either direction and vertically by minimum 180 degrees on top and below the horizontal.
 

They are electrically remote controlled from the side of the vehicle. Other configurations are possible.
