Vetter safety cushions SP 16 / SP 25

Specification Attachment: Safety Cushion_EN.pdf Teaser: Fast rescue from heights up to 25 metres (80 ft.)  Vetter safety cushions provide fast help when space is restricted at the rescue site or when facades are inaccessible to aerial ladder trucks. That way, you are ideally equipped even for difficult operational situations. Quickly set up and easily transported, the Vetter SP 16 and SP 25 safety cushions make it easier to gain access to the rear sides or courtyards of buildings. Our safety cushions also offer a safe solution for the rescue of trapped rescue personnel. Since 2014 the SP 16 is the only standardized safety cushion in germany. So protect yourselves and all affected people in case of rescue from extremely heights and trust our jump cushions. Neon-yellow side walls improve the visibility of our safety cushions at night or in bad weather. The landing areas are psychologically optimised: the blue circle − developed with experienced psychologist Prof. Horst Schuh − has been shown to reduce the crippling fear experienced by the jumper. Our safety cushions have been tested by an independent institution in accordance with or based on the DIN 14151 T 1 and T 3. This standard requires elaborate testing including many drop tests with different falling weights and drop positions. To measure impact deceleration, a kind of crash test with dummies is especially important. After all, it is most essential to prevent jumping persons from hitting too hard, breaking through to the ground, or even bouncing back from out of the cushion. In short: Only with a certified safety cushion, you protect a jumping person and your rescue team optimally from avoidable injuries. www.vetter.de

Pentair Industrial Fire Protection receives UL/FM approval

For advanced metallurgies in fire protection equipment Pentair Engineered Solutions has obtained UL listing and FM Approval on its line of fire pumps with advanced metallurgies. This means industrial users located offshore, near shore and between shores now have a greatly needed defense against salt and brackish water corrosion that has historically wreaked havoc on their pumping equipment. It also designates Pentair as the first to market with a broad line of UL/FM pumps using advanced metallurgies. The corrosive effects of salt and brackish water, high pH, sand, etc., can put traditional cast iron and carbon steel fire pumps out of commission in only a few months. Without the corrosion-resistance provided by the advanced metallurgies, operators must choose between making costly pump system repairs or suffering lengthy shut downs and lost production time. Pentair’s recent approval gives operators the ability to combine the design, performance and quality standards of fire pumps built and tested per NFPA 20, UL, and FM, with the advanced metallurgies specifically selected to combat corrosion, extend pump service life and maximize uptime. The UL/FM Approval of these pumps also means industrial users now have a complete line of Pentair fire protection pumps (to 5000 gallons per minute) from which to choose. Advanced metallurgies available for use in all major components of split case and vertical turbine pumps include 316 Stainless Steel, Duplex and Super Duplex Stainless Steel, as well as Nickel-Aluminum-Bronze. Advanced Metallurgies Also Benefit Marine Pumping Applications Pentair advanced metallurgies apply to marine applications, benefitting marine architects, municipal users, and port authorities as well. In addition to the UL/FM Approval, these pumps have also satisfied ABS, Lloyd’s, and Bureauveritas standards. Benefits To Fresh Water Tank Users Often, operations located near saltwater sources are forced to avoid readily available seawater due to its corrosive effects on carbon steel and cast iron based pumping equipment — opting instead to pump fresh water into holding tanks on premises. Pentair’s line of fire protection pumps utilizing advanced metallurgies offers the more cost-effective option of utilizing unlimited brackish water resources, as well as avoiding the need for holding tanks and the larger footprints they entail.

Advanced provides new fire system simulator to leading London airport

London City Airport is the only airport to be located in the M25 London City Airport has recently opened a new simulation training room, mirroring its fire system which features panels from leading manufacturer, Advanced. Opened in 1987, the airport, situated at the former Royal Docks in Newham, is the only airport to be located within the M25. Servicing over 3.6 million passengers annually, the airport has ten operating airlines that travel to over 45 destinations. The complex is already protected by Advanced MxPro panels and the new training room will allow staff to learn their use and explore various scenarios in a controlled and isolated environment. The training room incorporates a two loop MxPro 4 panel and graphic package that will allow the staff to receive necessary training in the use of the airport systems. MxPro panels were originally selected due to their reputation for outstanding quality, reliability and ease of use. Robin Kemp, Advanced’s sales manager for the south east region, commented: “With Advanced panels already installed in London City Airport, the addition of the training room and the MxPro 4 panel for training purposes allows staff at the airport to be trained in the latest aspects of fire safety. In a 24-hour facility, it’s hard to do training using the main system, so this means that all types of incident can be mocked up without inconveniencing passengers.” MxPro is the fire industry’s leading multiprotocol fire solution, offering customers a choice of two panel ranges, four detector protocols and a completely open installer network that enjoys free training and support. MxPro panels can be used in single loop, single panel format or easily configured into multi-loop, high speed, 200 panel networks covering huge areas and thousands of field devices. MxPro 4 is fully compliant with EN54 Parts 2 and 4, and backed up with Advanced’s renowned customer care and technical support. The MxPro 5 is Advanced’s highest performance analogue panel. It is EN54 2, 4 & 13 approved and is backward compatible with MxPro 4, offering long-term security for MxPro customers. Advanced is a world leader in the development and manufacture of intelligent fire systems. The legendary performance, quality and ease-of-use of its products sees Advanced specified in locations all over the world, from single panel installations to large multi-site networks. Advanced’s products include complete fire detection systems, multi-protocol fire panels, extinguishing control, fire paging and false alarm management systems. Vetter lifts with more power, higher, safer

Two new innovations from Interschutz  Vetter, the leading manufacturer of emergency pneumatics presented two trade fair innovations during Interschutz 2015: With the S.Tec 12 Lifting Bags the company is putting a lifting bag on the market with 12-bar technology as the very first pneumatic rescue technology supplier. The Connectable Bags C.Tec with 10 bar operating pressure were also presented. Combining three bags can create lifting heights of up to 2.10 metres (82 inches). First lifting bag with 12-bar technology "With our new S.Tec 12 Lifting Bags we are able to boost the lifting force of our tried and tested 8-bar bags by an additional 50 percent on the identical area of one square metre", according to Karina Geuenich, Product Manager at Vetter. That means for the first time, loads of up to 102 tons can be safely lifted. The low insertion height of merely 25 millimetres (0.98 inches) make them especially flat, letting them fit into even the most narrow gaps and openings. On top of that, the limited space is better utilised in the rescue vehicle. „To make it even easier for the rescue services to identify the lifting bags in the vehicle, the new S.Tec 12 Lifting Bags are marked on both sides next to the connection valve with the main technical data“, explains Ms. Geuenich. All the bags in this series are compatible with the Vetter 8 and 10 bar filling accessories. And there’s another strong argument in favour of the S.Tec 12 Lifting Bags: According to Vetter, the three specially developed sizes make it the only supplier on the market at this time that lets fire brigades exactly meet the DIN 14530 and 14555 equipment standards. The standards specify the minimum requirements for lifting bags with 100 kN, 200 kN and 500 kN. Vetter completely covers these with its sizes V 10, V 20 and V 50. Versatile combination of lifting bags without tools Three different sizes, 560 mm to nearly 1,350 mm diameter, 16 possible combinations – The figures reveal what is important to Vetter in its new Connectable Bags C.Tec: Versatility. Every required lift height during deployment in natural catastrophes or collapsed buildings can be achieved with flexibility. That makes up to 2.1 metres (82 inches) feasible when combining the three largest Connectable Bags. According to Vetter, it has reached the highest lifting heights in the connectable lifting bag segment. The lifting bags can also be used individually, of course. And the rescue services onsite will appreciate something else too: „Our new lifting bags can be combined with a connection plate tool-free. That saves valuable time at the operation site, space in the vehicles and minimises the training expenditure“, says Ms. Geuenich. Based on the intelligent connection plate technology, after combining the connections they all automatically face the same direction. The process was tested and certified by an independent testing institute. Result: It is the safest connection technique on the market. The Connectable Bags C.Tec from Vetter are compatible with the company’s 10-bar system, which simplifies investment planning. That facilitates continued use of previously acquired systems. Just as with all lifting bags from Vetter, the newly presented products are exclusively „Made in Germany“. Before delivery, they are put through individual tests with dated test seals and have a safety factor of at least 4:1. Vetter consequently continues its reliable and tested safety concept along with its high quality standard. Both products were tested by an independent testing institute in accordance with DIN 13731:2008 and have been certified as lifting bag systems for fire brigades and rescue services compliant with the safety and performance requirements. The S.Tec 12 Lifting Bags and the Connectable Bags C.Tec are immediately available individually and in sets through trade partners. Mercedes-Benz Citans are the safe option for Scottish Fire and Rescue Service

17 fuel-efficient Mercedes-Benz Citan small vans Fire chiefs in Scotland have drafted in a new fleet of 17 fuel-efficient Mercedes-Benz Citan small vans to help spread key safety messages. They were supplied to the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service by Mercedes-Benz Commercial Vehicles Aberdeen and are being maintained by the Dealer’s Service team, as well as in other workshops run by its parent company T.O.M. The new vans are all 90 hp Citan 109 CDI models with Long bodies, and assigned to fire prevention duties. They are used by officers who carry out risk assessments of commercial and public buildings, deliver safety demonstrations, and undertake door-to-door smoke alarm inspections in residential areas. They may also be called into action to support front-line fire appliances at major incidents. The Scottish Fire and Rescue Service (SFRS) was formed in 2013, to replace the eight regional fire brigades which previously served the country. Fleet Manager Scott Roberts, who was formerly responsible for those vehicles operated by the Tayside brigade, said: “These are our first Citans but I know from experience that Mercedes-Benz vans are extremely reliable. “We trialled vehicles in the same class from all of the main manufacturers and the quality and specification of the Citans was in a different league to their competitors. We were equally impressed with the attentive service we received from MBCV Aberdeen, and the extensive back-up network offered by T.O.M.” The Citans have replaced vehicles of another brand, which were supplied directly by the manufacturer and maintained by different dealers depending on the location. “Now, though, we have a single point of contact for everything, which makes my life much easier and is far more efficient,” continued Mr Roberts. “The delivery of these vehicles to SFRS sites across Scotland was handled very professionally and the supplier’s network of workshop sites, all with long opening hours, means we have support where and when we need it.” The smallest vehicle in the Mercedes-Benz Vans range, the Citan is also available as a 75 hp 108 CDI, a 110 hp 111 CDI or a petrol-powered 114 hp Citan 112, and in Compact and Extra-long as well as Long body versions. www.firescotland.gov.uk
