Technology & innovation highlights due to wow attendees of The Emergency Services Show

The wealth of new technologies being launched at this year’s Emergency Services Show, taking place at the NEC on 21 and 22 September, evidence the vital and increasing role information and communication technology plays in assisting the emergency services to collaborate, communicate and respond more quickly and effectively.
Headlining the show’s free-to-attend ICT Innovation Theatre will be an extended session on the UK’s Emergency Services Network presented by the Home Office, Motorola and EE on Wednesday 21st September.
ESMCP is the programme to replace Airwave and provide integrated critical voice and broadband data services for the three emergency services. Taking place at 2.15pm on the Wednesday, the update on the ESMCP is expected to be one of the most popular seminar sessions at the show. Richard Hewlett, Deputy Director – Mobilisation, Home Office will give an overview of the emergency services mobile communications programme (ESMCP) and progress so far. He will be joined by John Muench, Programme Director, Emergency Services Network, Motorola Solutions, who will talk about ESN functionality, and Simon Frumkin, Managing Director, Emergency Services Network, EE who will explain what EE will be delivering for the programme.
The Police ICT company is also exhibiting this year and its CEO Martin Wyke will present a further highlight of the ICT Innovation Theatre by speaking on the Future of Police ICT. The Police ICT Company is equipping Police Forces to save efficiently by engaging and empowering them to share best practices, work to common standards and buy ICT better. Wyke will say that interoperability is the key, it’s not a one solutions fits all but fewer solutions deployed more widely.
Matt Keogh a serving member of GMFRS Tech Rescue team (Greater Manchester Fire & Rescue Service), a member of the UK ISAR team for 25 years and co-founder of WASP Rescue will launch WASP at an Innovation Theatre conference session on Thursday 22nd September. WASP (Warning Alarm for Stability Protection) is an innovative but simple monitoring system designed to protect emergency services workers and members of the public. One of the first WASP devices was deployed by Kent Fire & Rescue after the recent partial collapse of a bridge on the M20 motorway, where it would have alerted emergency services if any further movement had occurred during the rescue and recovery process.
Officially launched at The Emergency Services Show, WASP is the world’s first digital, highly portable monitoring system and was created specifically to assist emergency services workers in a variety of scenarios. It attaches to any surface in any position and provides an early warning of movement and vibration providing protection in a multitude of scenarios. Crucially it provides a welcome substitute to traditional methods of monitoring and removes the potential for human error.
IntelliMon will also use the show to launch its electronic personal protection system. FiRST (Fire-fighter Rescue & Support Technology) is an intelligent monitoring PPE system designed to rapidly detect and predict the rise in temperature that precedes a “flashover” incident.
The show also features an App Zone where exhibitors will showcase a growing range of emergency services Apps for mobile devices. App Zone exhibitors include: EARS – Emergency Alert Response System; Realsafe Technologies; GoodSAM and Remote Technology; CPDme, Real Riders and Think Lab.
The Drone Zone at The Emergency Services Show brings together industry specialists and end-users to share their knowledge and experience of UAV technology. Speakers will cover risk management, operational safety in both civil and commercial airspace, privacy, security and legislation. Exhibitors displaying UAV technologies for emergency service use include: SUAS Global; Civil Air Patrol; Coptrz; NATS; Yuneec; WH Bence; ConsortiQ; Primetech; Excelerate; Aeracess and Sky Futures.
