Gent offers the best of both worlds with its FAAST ASD Interface

Gent by Honeywell, the leading manufacturer of innovative life safety solutions, has announced the availability of its new ASD Interface, which has been developed to allow FAAST’s aspirating smoke detection technology to be seamlessly integrated with the company’s industry leading Vigilon fire detection system. This latest development from Gent offers unrivalled levels of flexibility, functionality and control for those looking to experience the full benefits of aspirating smoke detection.
Designed to work with the FAAST 8100 (shortly to be rebranded to FAAST XM) and FAAST LT ranges, the fully EN 54-17 compliant ASD Interface enables full Vigilon control panel integration thanks to a combined loop interface and power supply unit (PSU) that also offers 24-hour battery back-up via the integrated EN54-4 PSU. The solution is supplied in a bundled kit that comes complete with batteries and simple connection via a printed circuit board (PCB), eliminating the need for end of lines and special cabling between the FAAST system and the loop interface.
Matching the sleek aesthetics of the FAAST products, the ASD Interface offers style as well as substance. Set up can be completed using Gent’s Commissioning Tool and once an ASD Interface has been installed.
The ASD Interface is the latest innovation from Gent to meet the demand for aspirating smoke detection, as it becomes an increasingly popular life safety solution. No longer a niche technology, it can now be used in a wide range of diverse environments – from dusty and dirty waste processing plants to ultra-clean hospitals, warehousing / distribution centres and museums. It combines resilience, stability, a high degree of sensitivity where required, early event warning and minimal false alarms to detect fires often before visible smouldering takes place.
The FAAST LT delivers a flexible solution for applications where standard detection methods are prone to failure or false alarm. The device serves a wide variety of applications a wide variety of EN 54-20 Class C applications for environments such as large open spaces, restrictive access and storage facilities. Class C systems are designed to give the equivalent performance of standard point detection. Epitomising the cutting edge in aspirating smoke detection, the FAAST XM is suitable for mission critical, challenging industrial and harsh applications. It combines dual source blue LED and infrared laser detection with advanced algorithms, which detect a wide range of fire types while maintaining enhanced immunity to nuisance particulates. Additionally FAAST XM’s patented wing filter technology allows larger particulate to be exhausted from the ASD unit prior to the sampled air entering the detection chamber further increasing the devices false alarm immunity.
‘FAAST’s aspirating smoke detection systems are incredibly reliable and the way that they identify and react to smoke particles increases the time for safe evacuation, lowers the risk of business interruption and reduces the likelihood of false alarms,’ commented Dina Mistry, Gent’s Marketing & Communications Specialist. ‘The ability to use the new ASD Interface to integrate FAAST technology with our pioneering Gent Vigilon control panels sets a new standard in life safety provision, something which will be welcomed by integrators and end users alike.’
