A charity car wash is being held at Eccleston Community Fire Station on the 2 July to raise funds for The Fire Fighters Charity and an Eccleston youngster battling a rare genetic condition.
Firefighters at Eccleston Community Fire Station are holding the car wash at the station, on Millfields, between 10am and 4pm to raise funds for 12-year-old Melissa Adams, who was diagnosed with Angelman syndrome in 2006.
The condition means Melissa is unable to speak, has poor mobility skills, suffers epilepsy and needs 24-hour care.
Funds raised from the car wash will go towards ‘Melissa’s Smile Fund’ set up by Melissa’s mum Kat and brother Jacob, to provide Melissa with essential equipment she needs as she grows up.
This includes a sensory room, which Melissa’s family hope to create as a place of calm for Melissa when she has seizures and when her lack of communications skills prove too much for her.
Proceeds will also be donated to The Fire Fighter’s Charity, which provides treatment and support for serving and retired firefighters, and their families, in times of need.
Watch Manager Steve McHale said: “Firefighters from Red Watch at Eccleston Community Fire Station have organised a joint charity car wash with Melissa’s family and friends to assist in raising money for two great causes.”
“We hope everyone who lives nearby, or who is visiting the area on Saturday, will come along to show their support however they can.”
“It will be a great day and hopefully we can help raise funds for two very well-deserving charities.”
