Our staff, present and past, customers and suppliers who have known him, over a lifetime’s involvement with the company stretching back 75 years, wish to record their condolences to his family and to place on record the debt of gratitude we owe him for the contribution he has made to the growth and success of our company over this time”. Pierce Ultimate Configuration (PUC) Granted

United States Patent #7,784,554 as it Surpasses 500 Vehicles Sold Unique fire pump system located underneath cab offers firefighters many benefits.   Pierce Manufacturing, an Oshkosh Corporation (NYSE:OSK) company, today announced that it has been granted United States Patent 7,784,554 for the Pierce Ultimate Configuration (PUC™) firefighting vehicle. This is in addition to multiple patents previously issued, which cover this vehicle and its options. With more than 500 vehicles sold, the PUC is among the most popular products in Pierce Manufacturing history. “This US patent reinforces the PUC as a breakthrough firefighting vehicle innovation unlike anything else in the industry,” said Jim Johnson, Oshkosh Corporation executive vice president and president, Fire & Emergency. “Our product development team spent thousands of hours developing the PUC, with input and feedback from firefighters coast-to-coast.” The PUC is an industry-changing multi-purpose response vehicle that is engineered to eliminate the need for a bulky pumphouse. The PUC features a simplified two-step pump shift operation and redesigned pump panel for ease of use. In addition, the design frees space while improving function. With a wheelbase as short as 172-inches for improved maneuverability, the PUC also provides up to 500 cubic-feet of storage. Among the many other benefits delivered by the PUC are the following: • Two-step/single touch ease. A simple two-step pump operation and “single touch” water-foam-CAFS selection means the firefighting system is up and functional before the operator exits the cab. • Tilt and access efficiency. Reduced downtime and maintenance costs by tilting the cab and removing the crosslay trays. The PUC provides easy and full access to all plumbing and pump components. Maintenance people spend less time getting to the plumbing and parts. • Safety. With the pump operator positioned alongside the hose connections instead of over them – and with crosslays and hosebeds at chest height – the PUC boasts an impressive list of safety features. The PUC is available on all Pierce custom chassis in side and top mount configurations, as well as on all aerial ladders. Anderson Engineering Launches Ladder Range

With an award winning reputation for precision engineering… With an award winning reputation for precision engineering, Anderson Engineering, is delighted to announce the launch of a new range of ladder systems, styled on the original Irish Lacon design and now available in the UK and international Fire, Blue Light and Defence markets, the range includes: Rivet and Truss Ladders, Roof Ladders and Short Triple Extension Ladders, the latter two being made by a solid style and swaged round construction.   Graham Anderson, Managing Director of Anderson Engineering explains the decision to launch a new range of ladders: “Due to industry changes we felt the quality of industrial ladder manufacturing in this county had fallen short of expectations. We saw an opening and decided to improve on the Irish Lacon design, a market standard system tried and tested for thirty-five years by fire fighters the world over, and capable of being used on any gantry system in the UK and most European models. At the same time we believed we could improve the materials and workmanship of ladders.”   It’s a decision that’s already paying off, with sales increasing in the UK and an overall rise in demand from overseas markets including Singapore, France and Italy. Anderson’s move into the ladder market place not only means they are able to respond quickly and efficiently to the increase in orders, but they are able to supply the parts and also repair other leading ladder manufactured brands on the market.   “I believe good engineers don’t find problems, good engineers find solutions and our range of ladders are no exception. We took a market standard design, which hasn’t changed in thirty years and made it better by improving it’s work life expectancy, its compatibility with other gantry systems and applications and finally by offering a more competitive price point than the market leaders.”   Like all Anderson products, the new range of ladders have been designed, developed and manufactured by this family run team of engineers, who have grown the business by working closely with brigades and vehicle builders. “Being able to respond to market needs with imagination and engineering acumen,” concludes Anderson, “has allowed us to create a range of products that answers industry needs.”

PPG Protective & Marine Coatings

PPG Protective & Marine Coatings is recognised as a world leader in the development and supply of marketleading performance coatings to protect  steel and concrete structures from fire and corrosion in some of the world’s  most demanding environments. To maintain this position, we utilise state-of the-art laboratory facilities for formulating and testing products that are at  the cutting edge of coatings technology. As a result of this expertise, PPG has gained an international reputation for outstanding reliability in both products and services. This expertise, combined with our global network, ensures consistent success for our customers and their projects throughout the world. An unrivaled product range Under the Amercoat and Sigma Coatings brands, PPG Protective &  Marine Coatings provides proven products that protect heavyduty industrial and commercial assets in the most challenging conditions. These products are used in such diverse segments, as offshore, petrochemical, power, civil infrastructure, original equipment manufacturing and marine.   Steelguard – the superior solution for cellulosic fire protection PPG Protective & Marine Coatings offers, under the trade name Steelguard, a complete range of intumescent coating systems for various grades of fire protection, climatic exposure conditions and application techniques that also comply with many national standards. The development of PPG’s Steelguard thin-film intumescent coatings started in the mid-1980s, when the first companies started to market and develop intumescent coatings in the UK in cooperation with British Steel. Formulating external grades intumescent Steelguard FM and matching application innovations in the development of off-site applied intumescent coatings demonstrates our proactive commitment to solving the challenges of the construction industry. These coatings are ideally suited for today’s designers and provide an extremely smooth surface in a wide range of colours. Architects often design buildings by showing the exposed steel structures, which enables existing and effective design to be used in all areas of construction, such as factories, sports halls, hospitals and schools. But if a fire strikes, the potential for disaster is frightening. Within minutes unprotected steel can reach the critical temperature that causes it to lose stability and collapse. Intumescent coatings work by expanding at high temperatures, from a very thin, lightweight coating, into a thick, foam-like layer that insulates the steel from the fire and maintains its stability. As a result, the value of Steelguard intumescent coatings is that they provide the vital extra time to help people escape and also allow fire fighters to save the building itself. On-site and off-site capability Always aware of commercial and manufacturing developments, PPG Protective & Marine Coatings products meet the trend towards off-site painting of construction steelwork in high-rise steel frame structures in city centers, minimising on-site painting in the construction and optimising the quality control procedures during the specialized application techniques. The Steelguard intumescent range also includes coatings specifically designed for on-site use. These water-borne coatings comply with the most stringent environmental regulations, enabling applications to take place in working environments – even while people are using the building. In combination with suitable PPG topcoats, the range also provides high levels of corrosion protection against a wide variety of atmospheric conditions. These products can be combined with matching water-based primer and finish coats and are used where buildings are repaired, refurbished or sometimes completely stripped and rebuilt to allow a complete new usage of the construction. Compliance to international standards PPG is certified to ISO 9001, recognised around the world as sign of quality and our global core range of systems is comprehensively tested, meeting standards such as Norsok M501, ISO 20340 and ISO 12944. Steelguard intumescent coatings meet international standards in fire protection, with each product undergoing a rigorous, exhaustive testing process. In addition, every production batch is checked against its specifications – so you can be assured of consistent quality and accurate fire protection levels at all times. Certificates from recognised testing authorities, proving full compliance with the international standards, are available on request. Fire engineering service Large projects frequently require additional fire engineering in which the coatings supplier, designer and contractor develop solutions for specific project applications and construction solutions to meet all fire protection requirements. With an experienced coatings supplier like PPG Protective & Marine Coatings, equipped with the latest laboratory facilities for formulating and fire testing, custom-made solutions can be developed to ensure dependable and compliant fire protection. Environmental principles Through intensive research, PPG Protective & Marine Coatings has developed proprietary coatings and processes for steel and concrete protection that greatly reduce the use of chemicals potentially harmful to human health and the environment while protecting capital investments, thereby ensuring a long economic life expectancy. The majority of PPG Protective & Marine Coatings products are environmentally designed with high-solids, solventfree and water-based technology reducing the possibility of environmental pollution and enhancing workers’ safety.   A total customer-focused solution The industry constantly faces new demands, which is why we work closely with our customers and the world’s leading architects and engineers to continuously improve the value and effectiveness of all our fire protection products. This drive and pursuit of excellence delivers coatings that are unsurpassed in performance and protection among asset owners, contractors, fabricators and applicators across the globe, and help customers meet the challenges they face today, and tomorrow. 15 Pierce pumpers to Canada's ontario first nations communities

Pierce Manufacturing Inc., an Oshkosh Corporation Pierce Manufacturing Inc., an Oshkosh Corporation (NYSE:OSK) company, is supplying 15 Pierce® commercial pumper vehicles to Ontario First Nations communities throughout the province of Ontario. The Ontario First Nations’ Technical Services Corporation (OFNTSC), whose mission includes technical advisory services for all 134 of the Ontario First Nations, purchased the vehicles. Eleven have been placed into service, and the remaining four will travel to more isolated communities this winter after ice roads are opened. All 15 trucks were delivered to the province in less than two months. “These are remote and, in some cases, extremely isolated communities where the only way in is by float plane,” said Eugene McPherson, Fire Prevention Officer and President of the Ontario Native Fire Fighters Society. “Many of our First Nations communities have never had a new fire truck, and, quite frankly, these vehicles can mean the difference between life and death. The arrivals of the trucks are celebrated events, as they help ensure the safety of these communities.” The local Pierce dealer, Darch Fire of Ayr, Ontario provides sales, local service and support. John Darch, and instructors under the direction of Moe Douglas from the Matawa First Nations Council, presented a comprehensive four-day training course for First Nation Fire Fighters from the communities of Big Trout Lake First Nation, Fort Hope First Nation, Muskrat Dam First Nation, and Sandy Lake First Nation. “Every new Pierce fire truck has an interesting story of its own, and these 15 pumpers being placed into service throughout northern Ontario are certainly no exception,” said Jim Johnson, Oshkosh Corporation executive vice president and president, Fire & Emergency. “Pierce’s extensive stock vehicles program, along with our dealer’s expertise, helped us meet the needs of the OFNTSC and the individual departments. We are happy to see these trucks in their new homes.” "After a thorough process that included input from committees, tribal councils and fire chiefs, we built comprehensive specifications and put this important order out to bid. We were very happy with response from Pierce and its dealer, Darch Fire,” said Bob Howsam, OFNTSC executive director. "They allowed for some equipment and configuration customization by each First Nation department.” The Pierce® pumpers are built on a variety of commercial chassis, with a mix of top mount and side control pump panel configurations. Each vehicle features seating for at least two firefighters, automatic transmission, 1,000-gallon water tank, 1,250-gpm pump, winter package pump compartments, hard suction hose, and a complement of ground ladders. The OFNTSC was established in 1995 to provide expert technical advisory services to the First Nations of Ontario. At that time, it was the first aboriginal organization in Canada mandated to provide professional technical and advisory services to First Nations communities and foster their technical self-reliance. The OFNTSC represents all 134 First Nations in Ontario, including 16 Tribal Councils, six large First Nations and 18 unaffiliated First Nations.

Bott provides welfareunits for hard working firefighters

Bott, the leading manufacturer of in-vehicle storage solutions Bott, the leading manufacturer of in-vehicle storage solutions, has worked closely with Grampian Fire and Rescue Service to design two welfare units; offering somewhere for fire fighters to rest when involved in complex incidents that last for long periods of time. Fire fighters can often be at the scene of a fire or rescue operation for many hours, even days, and therefore need facilities in which to rest and re-energise. Bott’s demountable welfare units, placed on the back of Scania trucks to be transported to an incident, usually include a living space, kitchen and toilet facilities, as well as electricity and running water. Grampian Fire and Rescue recently required two new welfare units to support its 872 fire fighters when at incidents. Based at its headquarters in Aberdeen, they provide a valuable resource to the team who serve 8,736 sq km across the north east of Scotland. To ensure the units were designed in a durable, efficient and ergonomic way, Raymond Cheyne, fleet manager at the service, contacted Bott. Raymond explains: “The welfare of our fire fighters is one of our main concerns, and these units will help to ensure they are not put at unnecessary risk by working long periods without a break. We needed to work with a company that would design the units with our specific needs in mind and provide equipment that is durable and long-lasting – that’s why we contacted Bott.” Bott has a specialist vehicle enhancement service, which designed and installed the Grampian Fire and Rescue welfare units. James Dale, project manager from Bott comments: “We’ve worked with many fire and rescue teams before, so had a good understanding of what the needs and requirements of Grampian Fire and Rescue Service would be. It was important that the welfare units were designed with the demanding role of the fire fighter in mind, and we also looked at ways to maximise space in each area of the unit so more than one person could utilise it at the same time.” The welfare units comprise a seating and relaxing quarter, kitchen area with plumbed in hot and cold water and power points, and two bathrooms (one male and one female) with fully flushing toilets and sinks. All of the equipment installed needed to be hard-wearing and easy to wash down. Raymond continues: “Our fire fighters operate in extremely stressful and arduous situations and need facilities that can withstand wear and tear and exposure to soot, dirt, mud and oil. Bott’s excellent design and installation service is second to none – they ensured our requirements were taken on board and used strong, durable and easy-to-clean products, which were installed to the highest standard.” As well as providing bespoke designs and equipment, Bott’s vehicle enhancement division offers a standard range of storage modules comprising in-vehicle racking, drawers and cupboards to create well-organised interiors – allowing tools and equipment to be safely and efficiently carried. For further information on Bott’s range of in-vehicle storage products, telephone 01530 410600 or visit www.specialistvehicleconversions.co.uk or www.bottltd.co.uk.
