In 1973 Upper Iowa launched an external degree program, one of the first in the United States. Today this self-guided, independent study program continues to enable students from around the world an opportunity to continue their education without having to attend class or have consistent internet access.

Students can work via the U.S. mail or email, depending on their access and location. The program features open enrollment so you may enroll in a course at any time. During the 1990’s, Upper Iowa University established off-campus learning centers at several locations in order to provide accelerated and convenient degree completion opportunities for students.

The convenient off-campus centre locations are perfect for those who work full-time, part-time or just looking for degree programs in their communities. Classes are held during evenings and weekends in accelerated eight week terms to accommodate busy schedules.

Centres in the United States are located in Iowa, Wisconsin, Illinois, Kansas and Louisiana. Upper Iowa also offer classes at our International Centres located in Hong Kong, Malaysia, and Singapore.

In 1999, Upper Iowa began online program delivery. The program has continued to grow both in enrollment and national reputation. The online program is delivered in accelerated 8-week terms enabling students to quickly navigate their course work while meeting the many demands of their career and personal life.

The asynchronous courses are designed to allow you to attend class anytime during the day that fits your schedule. You will interact with credentialed faculty and students with varied backgrounds from around the world. The rigorous curriculum is designed for working adults and incorporates high academic standards. It has been ranked in the top 10% of online programs nationwide by Online Education Database (OEDb) since 2008.

Several online degree programs have been ranked as “Best Buys” by GetEducated.com. The flexibility of Upper Iowa’s distance learning programs makes them a terrific fit for students who need flexibility in their education program. The courses are taught by experienced faculty members who are allowed to design their own courses incorporating theory and practitioner experience.

They have two options to continue with their education goals and can select the best delivery program based on their preferred learning method and the demands of their career and/or family situation. Students can study at any time and from anywhere. They offer a competitive tuition rate for students from around the world. Additionally, they work hard to ensure that admissions staff, academic advisors and financial aid counselors are well trained to provide first-class customer service.

You will be assigned an academic advisor who will provide guidance throughout your degree program. As a regionally accredited university, Upper Iowa University applies progressive transfer policies for previous college credits and credits awarded through CLEP and DSST examinations. They also recognise and award maximum credit from training evaluated by the American Council on Education (ACE). Their generous transfer policies allow students to enter the program with as many requirements satisfied as possible. UIU also offers experiential learning credit to help students receive college credit for their life and work experience.

Fire training may be evaluated for college credit through this process. The Upper Iowa University Masters of Public Administration Program provides learners with the knowledge and skills needed to assume a leadership role and to improve administrative and managerial quality in government and non-profit organisations. Their online program allows students to engage in learning regardless of their physical location.

In this way UIU can provide a quality education to a diverse group of learners. The program intends to instill in learners an appreciation for how market efficiency and democratic values must be respected and balanced to promote the public good. UIU learners will be able to apply their analytical, communication, problem solving and research skills to the complex and often interconnected and interdisciplinary problems faced by mangers and leaders in government agencies and non-profit organisations.

The Bachelor of Science in Emergency and Disaster

Management major prepares students to take the lead in the critical work of responding to a wide range of natural and man-made disasters and civil emergencies. Coursework incorporates both an awareness of government agencies and policies, law, and management as well as practical courses in emergency planning, budget management, and hazards mitigation.

The Emergency & Disaster Management major prepares students for working at the local, state and federal levels in both the public and private sector. This degree supports the Federal Emergency Management Agency and enhances the abilities of first responders.
