Fire-raising in Dundee, Scotland, continues to rise

The Scottish Fire and Rescue Service (SFRS) have released figures between April and June, which state that there were 246 deliberate fires caused in Dundee, which is a five-year high for the second quarter of the year.
These damning statistics were released ahead of a meeting of Dundee City Council’s community safety and public protection committee, which was set for the 11th September.
The quarterly performance report for the city made it very clear that there had been 15 deliberate primary fires within those three months.
Primary fires are those that involve property, including machinery, vehicles and buildings. Out of the primary fires listed, a garden shed and three commercial buildings had suffered damage following rubbish being set on fire.
As well as this, five dwelling fires had been recorded following the ignition of both clothing and rubbish.
Other incidents within Dundee included an area of managed woodland, building materials on a construction site and vehicles.
The report also claimed that 231 secondary fires had been deliberately started and subsequently attended by fire crews within the same time period.
The area of Strathmartine was the most affected area in regards to deliberate fire-raising, with 87 incidents taking place there from April to June. This was followed by the North East, which had 74 incidents, while there was 28 in the East End and 21 in Lochee.
Due to the figures in question, SRFS pledged in the the report to deploy council community wardens to patrol high risk areas.
