Electronic Dance Music (EDM) festival UNITE With Tomorrowland, based in Barcelona, had to evacuate 22,000 music fans after a devastating fire broke out on the festival’s main stage following a technical fault.
The event, which is only a one day event, was scheduled to go on until 3am – with a headline set from Steve Aoki – however the fire put an end to those plans as festival-goers were rapidly evacuated from the city’s Parc de Can Zam into a safe place.
Thankfully, no serious injuries have been reported and it appears that the evacuation was a resounding success, though some festival attendees were – perhaps understandably – treated for anxiety following the blaze.
The fire was caused following a technical malfunction, and was so severe that it’s possible that the structure at the festival was at genuine risk of collapsing. An investigation into the matter is ongoing at time of writing.
