As the UK emerges from a winter of devastating storms and floods, the free-to-attend Emergency Services Show offers a valuable resource for those preparing for future incidents. Aimed at everyone involved in emergency response, planning and recovery, this year’s event (which returns to the NEC Birmingham on 24 and 25 September) will include underwater rescue demonstrations, a new search and rescue zone and a networking area featuring over 80 emergency services-related voluntary sector partners and NGOs.
The UK’s biggest emergency services event attracts over 450 exhibitors and features free workshops, seminars and demonstrations. “The Emergency Services Show offers visitors genuine opportunities for learning and networking. Nothing compares to physically handling an unfamiliar piece of equipment or gaining practical experience of the latest rescue techniques,” explains Event Director, David Brown. “Training alongside other bluelight service or rescue professionals, discussing challenges and sharing ideas improves co-working and empowers visitors to do their jobs better.”
A brand new feature, bringing together the UK’s search and rescue organisations with a dedicated presentation area, has been announced for 2014. Visitors to the SAR Zone will be able to speak to the likes of The RNLI, Maritime and Coastguard Agency, RAF Search & Rescue, Cave Rescue, Mountain Rescue and the Association of Lowland Rescue, among others. Underwater rescue demonstrations will take place on The Emergency Services Show Lake.
Meanwhile the British Red Cross, CFOA National Resilience, National Ambulance Resilience Unit, AA Special Operations, Flood Forecasting Centre, The Environment Agency and The Met Office will be among those exhibiting in the Emergency Response Zone. The promotion of multi-agency working between the key emergency responders and their partner agencies is the heart of the show and organisers Broden Media continue to provide these stands to qualifying organisations at no cost.
Training will have a major focus at this year’s event with seminars, simulations and opportunities to see the latest life saving techniques and equipment in action. The College of Paramedics for example will once again be running their highly popular free workshops.
“This year’s event will very much focus on the need to go back to basics – the basics of patient care which many in the industry feel have been undervalued while procedures and targets have been top of the agenda. Paramedics for example will find out how they can use their resources, technology and clinical knowledge to improve patient care,” says David.
Running alongside The Emergency Services Show in private rooms located in the atrium outside Halls 17 and 18, will be a number of AGMs and meetings, held by industry bodies such as CFOA National Resilience, The Emergency Planning Society and Fire National Procurement Group. All attendees at these meetings will have convenient access to The Emergency Services Show.
Now in its ninth year, The Emergency Services Show is aimed at anybody involved in emergency response, planning and recovery, including all bluelight services, voluntary workers and service providers.
The NEC is physically linked to Birmingham International Station and Birmingham Airport and is directly accessible from the UK motorway network. Parking for visitors and exhibitors will remain free of charge thanks to sponsorship by Emergency Services Times. Coaches will run from Birmingham International Station to the exhibition halls.
