Optical Smoke Detector
The XPlorer optical smoke detector has an infra red LED within the optical chamber which is arranged at an obtuse angle to a photo-diode. The LED emits a burst of collimated light every second. In clean air, the photo-diode receives no light directly from the LED. When smoke enters the chamber, it scatters light from the LED onto the photo-diode in an amount related to the smoke characteristics and density. A signal is generated and transmitted digitally to the control panel.
