Andy Spence, Joint Managing Director of Britannia Fire, has been re-elected for a third term to the board of the Fire Industry Association (FIA).
The FIA is the largest fire safety trade association in Europe, representing more than 1,200 UK member companies. It plays a vital role delivering training, technical expertise and standards guidance to help shape the fire safety sector.
With 25 years of experience in the fire safety industry, Andy has served on the FIA’s Extinguishing and Export Councils for more than a decade and sits on the British Standards Industry (BSI) FSH/2 Committee for Fire Extinguishers, where he contributes to the development of UK fire safety standards.
Earlier this year, he addressed the Environmental Audit Committee in the House of Commons, to highlight the significant challenges facing the industry in achieving a smooth transition away from PFAS-based firefighting foams.
A strong advocate for innovation and environmental responsibility, Andy has been instrumental in driving forward meaningful progress in safety, quality and sustainability across the sector.
He commented: “It’s been a privilege to contribute to the fire safety industry over the years, so I’m immensely grateful to the FIA members for re-electing me to the board. A great deal of progress has been made in improving standards and embracing new technology but there’s still much to be done. I’m honoured to continue working with the FIA and its members so we can help to build a safer and more sustainable future together.”
