Reliability in firefighting, the only solution

Keith Creely, Ziamatic Sales Manager, talks to Fire Buyer about the latest Ziamatic product innovations and the foundations of the company ethos

International Fire Buyer catches up with Keith Creely, Sales Manager for Ziamatic Corporation to find out a little bit more about the company and its vision, as well as their latest product launch the SURE-GRIP, and how that can influence the fire service and industry.

What was the inspiration behind starting your company?

Our founder was a member of the local volunteer fire department and was occasionally asked to use his machine shop to create custom equipment brackets for the trucks. Other departments saw these brackets and asked for some of their own. The business grew from there.

Ziamatic Corp. (Zico), an international leader in firefighting and safety equipment, has recently added two new multipurpose mounts to their popular line of tool mounting solutions. The SURE-GRIP, Model SG-VM-1, is fast-becoming the ideal choice for securing hand tools, rope, and cord while the new SURE-GRIP XL accommodates larger items such as struts, extrication tool grips, and reciprocating saws.

What makes your company unique?

Safety is paramount in everything we design. Sometimes that means keeping a piece of equipment from shifting or falling, other times it means minimising dangerous climbing on wet surfaces. And sometimes it’s simply doing the heavy lifting for them to protect their knees and backs. And once we have a design, we go above and beyond to take a third party test and make sure our products will do what we say they’ll do. Others don’t do that.

What is the most rewarding part of serving the first responder community?

We’re proud to support these men and women putting themselves at risk each day for the sake of others. Knowing that we make their jobs a little bit safer and a little bit easier each day is its own reward.

Reliability is key. Why choose SURE-GRIP? What separates these tool mounts from other options out there?

DEPENDABILITY – SURE-GRIP Tool Mounts features the same heavy-duty, all-weather hook & loop straps that have reliably secured firefighting tools and equipment for over 20 years. Each strap is made with UV-resistant materials and features two rubber grip pads for a powerful, premium hold.

PRECISION – That nylon strap bends and conforms to the equipment better than rubber alternatives, providing a tighter, more “true” grip on every tool no matter the shape. No longer are departments forced to leave “wiggle room” when the closest peg hole doesn’t quite fit. The SURE-GRIP has no peg holes at all!

SPEED – Simply unfasten the strap, grab the tool, and go. The SURE-GRIP is designed in such a way that the strap will free itself and fall away as the tool is pulled.

STRENGTH – The wide strap provides a larger surface area for maximum contact and a better grip. Tension is applied by pulling away from the mount base, providing more leverage and allowing the user to apply more of their strength when securing, resulting in a tighter hold.

SAFETY – Loose tools will shift during transport, and these can fall out when the compartment is opened. The fire scene is dangerous enough as it is. Identify and eliminate potential hazards before they happen and, in the event of a crash, prevent loose items can become dangerous flying projectiles.

EFFICIENCY – The strap extends only slightly past the base, leaving a smaller overall footprint and allowing departments to potentially fit more equipment in the same space.

STEWARDSHIP – Properly securing equipment not only protects department personnel, but also protects the tools themselves. Quality tool mounts keep expensive pieces of gear from being banged around during transport, both against themselves and the compartment walls, extending the overall life of the equipment and, in the long run, the life of the apparatus itself. Losing any piece of equipment can be costly, not only in terms of replacement fees, but running the risk of a missing tool not being there when you need it most. Having a secure, organised place for everything in the compartment allows for quick inspections at the station, as well as quick inventories before leaving the scene. An empty mount is an alert that something is missing.

Both SURE-GRIP options can be mounted either horizontally or vertically to meet departmental needs. The base is crafted with high-tensile strength, impact-resistant nylon plastic for years of rugged, dependable service. The wider base opening easily accommodates curved axe handles and a built-in support arm provides additional assistance and stability during operation.

We saw a need for a more versatile, non-corrosive tool mount. Something that would solve some of the problems departments were having with their brackets. We wanted to offer a new cost-effective option without any compromises on quality. We think people are really going to like the SURE-GRIP.
